When thinking of Utah, varied climates are typically what come to mind. However, what many people do not realize is that Utah, despite it's neighboring state being Nevada, is also subject to snow. Yes, the southwest and central areas are what Utah is mostly famous for, due to the famous Salt Lake City, and are typically what people think about when hearing Utah mentioned, but Utah is also home to mountainous regions, which experiences a much different climate. Summers are much cooler, and the high elevations mean that winters can be very cold with significant snowfall.
The drastic and varied difference between the regions means that seasonally, they need different resources. For Ft. Duchesne, located in the northeastern part of the state, that means in the winter months snow removal services are necessary. Sitting at a relatively high elevation and in close proximity to the Uinta Mountains, the area is subject to snow and ice, which we all know can be damaging to critical infrastructure such as roads and public transit. Snowboarding and skiing are popular activities in this area, but tourists and regulars would have a hard time reaching if all the roads were blocked by snow. The significant snowfall in this region is why the fort requests snow removal services. Interestingly, it was once a United States army base, but now it is now home to the Ute Tribal Enterprise, and carries out activities such as hunting, fishing, and hiking in warmer seasons.
However, the area that requires snow removal is the Uintah and Ouray Health Clinic, which primarily serves the Ute Tribes of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation. An important part of the reservation, keeping this area accessible is important for the safety and health of the residents nearby, and contractors are expected to automatically dispatch crews when ice has accumulated or is predicted to accumulate within four hours, and when snow is an amount exceeding an inch or is predicted to exceed an inch in four hours. Additionally, the contractor shall provide all necessary services and materials such as plowing, shoveling, and sanding/salting to accomplish the removal of the hazardous snow and ice from parking lots, road access ways, and sidewalks of the clinic to ensure functionality from the period of November 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025.
